Moving on, I had to go to our lovely Wal-mart for pain meds today. I finally got parked and got in line to “drop-off” my prescription for my pain pills. This line has a big sign that say’s “form one single file line”. I have worked in health care settings before, so I’m very aware of the need for privacy in such situations.
Anyway this chick in a black leather coat, long black hair get’s in line behind me. There is an old couple being helped at the counter. Finally they get done, and the tech helping them is typing on the computer, and talking on the phone, so I wait patiently to be called.
The chick behind me taps me on the shoulder (eeeew…stranger touch) and say’s, and I quote…”Um, are you in line?” I almost considered not answering her, because it was a totally stupid question that was full of passive aggressive “you need to get your ass up to the counter” sort of vibes, but because I’m usually polite, I did. I said, “yes, I’m in line”.
She then say’s to me, “If you go up to the counter, they will wait on you.” At this point, I’m in pain, I’m not digging her breathing down my neck and smelling like some cheap Brittney Spears perfume, so I turned around and said to her, “Ok, thanks, and for the record, I’m 44 years old and I’ve never stood in a line before, and I’m really happy you took the time to assist me”.
Then I didn’t move until the clerk called me. This is the second “line” incident I’ve had this week. The other one was in Old Navy and that was worse, and I nearly got into it with someone, but I’m digressing. I just don’t know what it is, am I having bad line karma?
I’m not normally a confrontative sort of person, but maybe it’s because I’m in pain, and I mean pain worse than when I had my kids, I’m losing my patience and turning into the line bitch, or if I’ve just had the unlucky coincidence of being in line with two idiots?
So what’s the deal folks? I have a large body bubble. I hate it when people get close to me in line, especially pharmacy lines. Am I being rude just waiting my turn, you can tell me the truth. I’m just at a loss, because I don’t know if I’m just especially sensitive right now, or if I’m normal and they are freaks.
Peace,
OC
You were not being rude, Ms. Black Coat/Hair Britney-Smelling Woman was. The pharmacy tech was probably grateful that you held back while he finished what he was doing, as you were probably the first person to be patient with him all day. People are so rude!
ReplyDeleteSome people are really impatient. They think by pushing you, the line will move faster - stupid people they are!!
ReplyDeleteSorry you are having the knee pain, and I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. In the mean time, RICE if you can.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have a large "personsal bubble" and I HATE those line pushers, the ones behind you in the grocery store who just WON'T let you get finshed with your transaction till they're up there breathing down your neck.
Grrrrr.
GG
I hate lines.
ReplyDeleteI think Ms. Black Coat was a little impatient and was taking it out on you.
Sorry about the knee pain. Been there myself and I know it's a drag.
