Where do I even start?
I have been bored with my theme for awhile. I've changed it around, I still don't like it.
So I got the bright idea to look for a new template, and I found one I really liked. I was sure I had found gold.
I did what the directions said to do:
I saved the html template.
I added the new template.
I clicked "save changes"
And there was my new blog, looking hot. Except...and this is a big except....all my widgits were gone.
So I started over again, and fell into a loop of bloggin creepiness big enough to fill my 1 acre yard. I had been pondering the idea of setting the whole thing up on typepad for awhile as well. So I put my little free blogspot blog back together, and proceeded to set up a typepad account. The directions to "import" my blog seemed straight forward enough, and I followed them to the letter.
Only to get the message in typepad that my "import file was not formatted correctly".
I did it again, and received the same message.
I couldn't get this to work, no matter how hard I tried, and in the meantime I began to get panicky (can you say addicted to blogging???). So I got the bright idea to import my blog into "Wordpress" because it says it is easier to import from wordpress. So I did that. It finally looked like it was going to work. Finally.
I tried importing straight from wordpress, only to be denied again with the same message.
So I downloaded the Wordpress into an .xml file onto my desktop and uploaded that to Typepad...and it was working. Finally, I knew I had it.
Only to open up my blog, and realize that I had no posts since March 3. WTF???? I opened the file I had downloaded, and all the files were there, so why didn't they upload to Typepad??? Why do I even want to upload to freaking Typepad???
Then I started copying and pasting each post since March 3rd into a new post in Typepad, but there are a few reasons I wasn't diggin this. First, all the dates were for April 6, 2008. Second all the comments were gone, and third, it was a PITA.
So what to do?
I still have 13 days to figure it out.
I put my blogger blog back together, since I had saved the "original original" html template. I haven't decided about Typepad yet, I have 14 days to change my mind, but I'm thinking I am going to cancel it.
I'm not sure the features are worth the money, and I'm pretty sure I'm way more comfortable with the blogger format. I'd really rather spend my time writing all this jibberish, than messing with html codes. I'm not an "html" sort of person.
Peace,
OC
I just wish I could figure out how to make a nicer header, then maybe I'd be happier. I really want a 3 column blog. I'm sure there is a way, but I don't know.
I know what you mean. I had been looking for new templates myself, got frustrated, and then just updated my blogger template with some new colors. Have you tried looking on http://www.pyzam.com/ for templates? I used them for my myspace layout and noticed they have blogger templates and widgits as well.
ReplyDeleteI went down that path for a short while and got distracted. What a lot of stress but if you find a three column template that works, let me know?
ReplyDeleteHmmm...don't know what to tell you right now but if/when I run across what you are looking for, I will let you know.
ReplyDeleteBut I love your bear!!!
Be well, OC.
I love the new colors, though! I have been thinking of changes "places" for a while, too, as I would like to be able to password protect individual posts, but I don't think Blogger will let you do that. Yes, if you find a nice 3-column template, please share!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday,
GG
Hi OC, nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteYou're more adventurous than I've been about investigating new blog platforms. I wish blogger had more variety/better templates!
