This makes me so mad.
Susan Atkins wants out for on a “compassionate” release?
So What??
Honestly, I don’t care how old or sick she is, she needs to stay in prison or a prison hospital until she kicks the bucket. Maybe I sound harsh, when it comes to crime, I guess I am.
Twenty years ago, I was brutally robbed at gunpoint while managing a restaurant. I wasn’t hurt, and neither were my employees, but my life changed that day, forever. Those same robbers did eventually rob another store and shot several people.
I was lucky, I survived it. I had a crazy person with a gun to my head screaming at me, for about 10 minutes. Now that doesn’t seem like a long time, but let me tell you, it is.
I lost just about all sympathy I have for criminals. This woman was convicted of murdering five people, one of them pregnant. Those people were not given any sort of “compassionate release”.
None.
They died a brutal, horrifying death.
I’m back and forth when it comes to the death penalty, I really am, but not because I think it’s intrinsically wrong. I think the harsher punishment is life in jail. With NO possibility of parole. I hate the fact that someone has to do the actual killing of these people. What does it do to the individual who actually has to execute the person? I think this makes us criminals as well.
As far as I’m concerned, Susan Atkins lost any right she had for compassion when she committed those murders so long ago. I remember reading Helter Skelter when I was in high school, and I was horrified then, and I’m horrified now when I think about it.
My own sister is a convicted double felon; needless to say there have been many heated battles amidst my family on this topic. I’m the most liberal of us all, except when it comes to this topic.
I know there are many factors involved in letting someone out of prison on a “compassionate release”, but I think her release needs to come when she dies. Her victims did not have an easy way out, nor should she.
I’m sure there are a lot of people who will disagree with me, but this is my opinion, this is my blog, and this is my voice. The voice of a victim.
Peace,
OC
OC:
ReplyDeleteI, too, have a hard time with all the "human rights" issues of prisioners when, after the crimes they have committed, they ought to have forfeited those rights upon making the decision to not behave in a civilized manner.
So I am with you.
What a horrible experience you have lived. We are so shaped by our experiences...
Thank you for sharing. Be well, OC.
No, you are NOT a "victim". You had something really bad happen to you, and you have moved on with your life--I don't say "got over it" because you dont' do that, BUT, THAT incident is not the only thing that defines you, which is whas "being a victim" means to me. It's when people use whatever happened to them as an excuse NOT to have a life, NOT to be responsible, NOT to...whatever, and you have not done that. YOU are so not a "victim".
ReplyDeleteAnd I do agree with you on your post here. It always comes down to choice. They CHOSE to kill, and they gave up whatever "rights" they might have had otherwise.
Hang in there!

I find this really crazy that this woman wants out of prision to Die! What is this world comming to? There has been other people who have died in prision. Why is Susan Atkins so special? I can not see any reason my self. YOu do the crime and you pay the time as I see it no matter what. Now as I see it if she would have lived a full long life in prision it would have cost a tax payer more than my idea will cost--- Put her back in prision and have a doctor in once in a while and have a nurse every day check on her.Where is our judges heads here? Susan has killed some one! We the tax payers have already paid for her to be in prision so keep her there for us until she dies. You can think of it this way she would have not seen death as long as she would have lived from her death sentence for the crime. I find it great how god works in his own ways.We could not take Susans life as per our laws so god is helping us out here.Remember we shall not kill. Well Susan killed any ways. So believe it or not.. our god is taking care of her. SO let Susan rot in jail and have so much pain she can not stand it until she finally dies. I have to get off the soap box now as this really makes me mad that she wants out of prision.
ReplyDeleteSharon Tate and her unborn child didn't get to choose how and where they died. Sorry...NO WAY. She needs to serve her time and SUFFER. She didn't think about this when she was murdering others so why should it matter now?.
ReplyDeleteHave to admit, I did not know the name but I certainly am familiar with the Manson story. No way should this woman be let out of jail. You act like a monster, you should get treated as such and be kept in your cage.
ReplyDeleteThe life sentence should be just that: Until she is dead. Dying in prison is exactly what the law had in mind for this evil being. Her suffering is exactly what she earned and must now experience. The only compassion that should be demonstrated is towards her victims, and their living relatives and friends. Let her rot in jail.
ReplyDeleteI'm so very sorry that you had to experience such a traumatic thing. I have never had anything like that happen to me and it must have been terrifying.
ReplyDeleteWhat would stop Susan from committing another horrific crime upon her release? If she is really dying than she would have nothing to lose when she was released and could easily kill again.
ReplyDeleteCOMPASSION?? How many other killers want compassion?
She needs to serve her ENTIRE sentence...to COMPLETION. If she dies before it is complete...so be it.
I sure HOPE she is not freed or given ANY special privledges.
You do the crime... you serve to the time.
I agree...LIFE means you DIE in prison.
If she wants compassion tell her to pray for her soul that she will find forgiveness from the Savior when she comes to JUDGEMENT DAY!
