It's 5:12 Am, and I've hardly slept tonight.
I went to bed really late, because I took a 4 hour nap today. It was so hot outside, that I just grabbed up my kids and took them to my bed and we cuddled and napped in the dark semi-coolness of my bedroom. That was lovely.
But, when I finally climbed into bed tonight, Little Miss came trudging in, "Mommy, can I sleep with you?" Of course, sucker that I am for blond curly headed little girls, I said "Come here baby" and she climbed right in.
All is good.
I have a king sized bed. Then, about the time I'm down for the count, in comes Small Son. He wants in, so I say, come on in.
By then, Little Miss is kicking the crap out of me, and pressing up against me from her side of the bed. Small Son is completely awake and chatting too me like it's day time, and pressing up against me from his side of the bed.
Both kids are squishing me in a space sized for a small 5 year old in the middle of my giant king sized bed.
Then I start itching. I have no idea what from as I took a shower before bed. I think it is mental itching. But, it is itching all the same, so here I am, being squashed by 60 odd pounds of children, kicked, and trying to tell myself I am not itching, I am clean, I have clean sheets, but it's not working.
So I finally woke up enough to carry Small Son back to bed. I started to pick up Little Miss, but she totally protested, so I put her back down. Now I'm lying on the end of my bed, atop my white down comforter, typing this ridiculous post at this ridiculous hour on a Sunday morning, go figure.
I'm going back to bed, for a bit, if they will let me. Who said this no sleep thing is only for new parents with infants anyway?
Peace,
OC
oh no. No sleep is for parents of all ages. Rach is 12 and still keeps me up some nights.
ReplyDeleteHey it's 7:30 AM. Are you up yet? Sorry, just busting your chops a bit. Hope you got to sleep in a little bit today.
ReplyDeleteAh, sounds like My Life as well!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI carry them back to their beds--most times La Princesita, being older, will stay all night, but Young Prince usually wakes up for a potty break around 2 then he's back in bed with me (in my king size as well!). Kicking, and they are OUT. That is established Rule. Stormy nights are exceptions to all rules--that is established as well.
..but I do remember, being even 8 or 9 or older, crying myself to sleep alone in my bedroom because all the lights had gone out, Mom and Dad had gone to sleep and I was the only one left awake. I felt so alone...and nobody would comfort me; instead, I was scolded.
So you are all good, OC!
Be well--and enjoy the cuddles! Guaranteed your children do.
I miss Liv coming in to snooze with me. When she was small, I was a single parent and she often slept with me. When Bing started sharing my bed, if Liv had a nightmare or was sick or something, Bing would either move to Liv's bed to sleep or the guest room.
ReplyDeleteNow, Liv never wants to sleep with me and I find that I miss it.
What IS it about kids? We have a huge king sized bed, but if one of the grandsons ends up in it, you can bet his feet will be in the kidneys within 5 minutes! Hope you got a LITTLE bit of rest!
ReplyDeleteGG
But don't you just love watching their little faces when they sleep? So peaceful and innocent.
ReplyDeleteThe three of us cuddling up is one of the biggest things I miss from their childhoods. Cherish these sleepless times, they pass oh so quickly.
