Tonight I was sitting at the table eating dinner, and watching my kids play on the floor.
Small son was coloring in Little Misses "Dora" coloring book with a set of colored pencils he found in the back of my truck tonight. They were both sitting on the floor.
Small Son said, here Sissy, let me show you, and I looked up, and saw two small heads bent over a coloring book, lost in it. Little Miss's curls were pulled up in pony tail, and she looked like a model from an 1800's miniature painting. Small son's head was bent in such a way he looked so much like my dad.
I felt myself gasp. The sheer joy of watching them grow and become the children they are becoming overtook me for a moment.
Someday, maybe I will understand why I was chosen to be their mother.
A little while later, my phone rang.
It was Moveon.org. Because I signed up for everything I could find the other day for volunteer opportunities for Barack Obama, they want me to come to a meeting this week to become a volunteer to help get people registered to vote. I said yes.
I need to take Small Son with me. He has been asking me about Barack Obama, every time he sees him on TV.
Who is he? Is he is a good guy or a bad guy?
It's funny how 5 years old's break everything down into "good and bad", but right now, that is sort of how it is, so I think now is the perfect chance to give him a lesson about how the country works.
I don't think he is too young to begin to understand the political system. Hubby and I talked about it tonight, and he is in agreement with me on this.
So, this week, Small Son and I will go to a meeting at Moveon.org and then get out there and cause some damage.
I'm a life long card carrying democrat, and hopefully my son will be as well.
Peace,
OC
Thank you for taking the time to volunteer.
ReplyDeletehit the streets! that's what it's going to take. i'm signed up to canvass across the river, and ordered bumper stickers and shirts (in other words made a donation) today... gotta fight the looming depression some way.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brad.
ReplyDeleteLynt,
I am officially now a signed up volunteer for the Barack Obama phone bank. I am going to be a busy girl the next few months, but I'm going to fight the fight...as are you my friend. I also ordered a bunch of B.O. (made a donation) stuff a few weeks ago, my car is decked out!
Good for you OC for getting so involved. I think it's great you are volunteering your time.
