I read an article the other day, and I wish I could remember from where, on how to freak your neighbors out while they are stealing your wireless connection.
Who thinks this stuff up??
One of the tricks looked like a lesson I’d flunk, but it essentially turned all the pictures and words upside down, at will.
What I want to know is how do you know if someone is stealing your wireless connection? What can they do with the stolen connection?
Again, I’ve had too much thinking time at work, but I keep picturing someone standing on their deck with a tin can and a string, hoping to catch an unprotected connection.
I know some of the connections in my neighborhood are named pretty funny.
One, is just “Anderson”
One is “Gizmo”
One is “momandpop12onthemountain”
Then there is the one that is named “AZTfifi” (this particular one cracks me up for some reason) It’s like a cross between a security company and someone’s poodle.
My name is so boring that I’m almost afraid to admit to it, it’s simply “macbook”.
See, I had no idea when I set up my $34.00 router, (yes folks, I got it from walmart, where the hell else would I get it???) that I’d be so entertained by the name people name their wireless connection.
I sit there at night, and try to figure out, who is Gizmo??
Which neighbor has named their wireless connection AZTfifi…just like that..upper and lower case??
Is it the guy kiddycorner to me that is the Finance guy at our hospital??
At least I know who “Anderson” is.
But AZTfifi has me in giggles on a nightly basis. Who are they, what do they do??? Which house do they live in???
The other one that has me confused is “momandpop12onthemountain”. Why 12??? Do they have 12 kids? 12 dollars? 12 dogs?? 12 Felonies???
Really though, I do need to know who AZTfifi, I can’t help but think it is my balding neighbor who drives a red Mustang and BBQ’s outside in plaid shorts and black sock’s…it’s too perfect.
Peace,
OC
Can't answer your last question but I can the first. If you have an unprotected connection someone can use your bandwidth and if your hard drive is shared they can browse your computer if they like. If they have hacking skills, they can do some interesting things to your computer as well. But you have a mac and those are not so targeted.
