Barack, Change Us!

I'm sitting here watching the comments on CSPAN after Barack Obama's acceptance speech. I'm simply stunned.

Some of these callers, I have to wonder if they even watched the speech.

One caller said (I'm paraphrasing),

"It was a nice speech, but if you want to have your taxes raised, vote for Obama, that's all that man will do."

"If I hear the word "change" one more time I'm going to be ill."

One caller said "I spent 20 years in a submarine chasing socialists and communists around the globe, and YOU people want to put a "BLACK" socialist in office, wake up!"

One said they "would have voted for Hillary, but will not vote for Obama, that they are now voting for McCain."

Gads, here I go again on my soap box. Can you really be that angry that Hillary did not get the nomination, that you would really vote for John McCain??? What part of John McCain is even close to what Hillary stands for? Her biggest platform was her view on health care. John McCain wants to privatize health care. She stood there the other night and basically pleaded with her supporters to vote for Obama. I'm angry.

I spent the evening perusing the websites of each candidate. As I was reading Obama's, it was like reading down a check list of my wish list, reform health care, check, women's right to choose, check, get us the hell out of Iraq, check, gay marriage, check.

Reading John McCain's website is frightening or me. This is only my opinion of course, but it made me almost ill. First on his list, was overturning "Roe V. Wade".

He also supports "No child left behind."

I don't know, the man scares me, not only is he just too old to do this job, he is too hot-headed, and not very bright. I want to know how being a POW qualifies him for being president?

POW's should be honored. But lets get real, POW's have been tortured and terrorized. They have PTSD. I am not sure just how this qualifies him for being the one to push the red button. It scares me.

The other night, I was also perusing www.military.com, and came across an article by a friend /acquaintance of John McCain. He was a fellow POW. He stated in this article, that he thought John McCain was the wrong man for the job, that he went to school with John McCain, that he had seen him work over the years, that he was not the only POW etc....this man was a conservative guy, and he is still frightened of McCain, and McCain is his friend.

I wish I could feel something besides terror at the thought of this man having a chance at winning this election, but that is what I feel, hands down. I know I'm not the only person that feels this way, I need to write it out, to get it down. I need understand how people think we are going to be better off with 4 more years of the same or worse.

Barack Obama is the child of a single mom, who came from nothing and went to Harvard. Michelle Obama is an intelligent compassionate woman. She is educated and eloquent. She is not a money hungry socialite.

John McCain barely managed to graduate from college.

Cindy McCain stood at her own parents funeral and did not claim a sibling, she stated she was the "only" child. McCain is one of the wealthiest men in the country, and the only tax cuts he worries about are the ones that will help the wealthy people.

So here is what I really feel. Barack Obama may not be able to do everything he wants, but I'll bet my butt he puts a good dent into it. I bet he tries as hard as he can to get this country back from the blink of destruction.

Hopping off the soap box now, do your own research.

Peace,

OC

  4. Just chiming in to say I totally agree. I so love what Obama said, I was moved to tears. Never before has a public figure--a politician--spoken what I believe, what I hope. Everything he says is what I hope for. Yes we can. Yes we can. He makes me believe that. It would break my heart for the USA to prove it doesn't deserve him. If he doesn't get elected, the USA deserves what it gets, but god help us all.
