Saturday that a Mommy Loved

Wow....how different the world after a full day of sleep!

Yesterday was my long awaited "day-off" at the hotel. For those of you that don't remember, hubby got me a gift certificate to one of the high end hotels here in town for my birthday with the promise of a full day off and to myself. So yesterday afternoon, I headed off happily to ABC Hotel.

I made a stop at Walmart (where else would I go?) to get some wine, snacks and such, I realized I didn't have glass so I bought one. While I was in the check out with a new checker, this one named "Tonya" from Texas, (I'll have to go into Tonya some other time) this little old lady sidled up to me and said, I swear, "drinking alone?" I about died. I thought, OK...I'm standing here with wine, cheese, crackers and one glass, arrrgh. You should have heard the lies coming out of my mouth at that old lady, because for some reason, I didn't want to explain to her my weekend alone. What a trip. I was so excited about my weekend, and this old lady made me feel like I was doing something wrong. I hightailed it out of there as fast as I could, before the old lady asked me if the $40.00 I got after I paid was to pay for a hooker, yikes...Walmart is definitely one of the bains of my existence.

Anyway, the plan was for hubby to bring the kids down, we take them in the pool and go swimming, then he takes them home and I'm left to my own devices. I had been there about an hour when they finally arrived. We had a blast taking the kids in the pool and in the hot tub. Then we decided to order a pizza. All was good, we showered the kids in the hotel shower, they ate their fill of pizza and hubby then took them home.

I had plans to do some writing, have a few glasses of wine, take a bath. I made it to the bath and half a glass of wine. Then I laid down on that fabulous bed with the cell phone by my head so I wouldn't miss the calls from hubby and the kids before they went to bed. I passed out, literally passed out. I guess I was that tired, because it sure wasn't alcohol induced. Hubby called me three times between 9:30 and 10:00 pm and I didn't even hear the phone. I guess it's a good thing he didn't think I was out on the town.

I finally woke up around 1:15AM on the bed, and realized I had just fallen asleep hard for the first time in a very long time. I guess not having to listen for the kids put me in a deep sleep. I got up, took my medications, had a glass of water, and went back to sleep. I think I woke up around 8:30AM, and didn't get out of bed until after 9:00.

The hotel had a breakfast, and I couldn't even get myself up enough to go get that. I made the in room coffee, drank that, and finally crawled down to get some real coffee around 11:30. Missed breakfast completely, but who cares when you get to relax like you never do?

I finally checked out of ABC Hotel a little before 1PM. Went back to Walmart for milk and stuff for dinner, then went home. I got home just in time for naps, and was able to cuddle my kidlets in my big bed and take a long nap with them listening to the rain come down and the thunder and lightning. We were all snuggled under my big down comforter, and I'll tell you what, there isn't a much better way to spend a Saturday afternoon in my book.

Last night, I spent more time cuddling my kids after making a nice dinner of bacon and cheese omelette's and biscuit's. We read a ton of books and I tucked their little soft baby smelling bodies into bed....god I love the way they smell.

So, of course, after all that sleep last night, I was totally awake last night. Luckily a friend indulged me and spent some time talking and chatting away. It was just a good day over all.

I'm wondering what today will hold, with it snowing like it is, it's definitely going to be a soup day. I'm thinking homemade posole today, with the fire place on and the smell of spicy soup cooking away.

Catch you on the flipside,

Peace,

OC

  1. They sell wind in your Walmart? LOL at that woman's comments. That is too funny. You can never get out of there without bumping into some character can you? So glad you got to have some "me" time. A well deserved rest.

  2. Sounds like you you had a Marvelous Saturday. And it is snowing already? Wow. I love these posts where you extol the virtues of the "Simple" things. There is absolutely NOTHING like them. Hope you are enjoying your "Labor Day".

  3. What a great day for you! I'm glad that hubby held up his end of the bargain.

I can't believe you have snow. It's over 90 degrees here. Mr. EM is sweatin' his butt off over the lawn mower as I type this and our AC is running. Crazy...

  5. What a lovely day! I love nice hotels. Love them.

You can buy wine at Wal-Mart? Cool! (if there's a next time, just wink at that lady and say, "jealous?")

Wait, whaddya mean, "with it snowing like it is?" Holy crap! (Though I guess the one time I had a snowball fight in July, it was in Montana...)

  8. I sleep like that when I leave the country. (snort!)

The breaks are needed, and good for you for taking it. I have let many many many a gift certificate simply expire as I either never had childcare to redeem it, or simply felt unworthy of redeeming it...guilt complex with roots in Catholic upbringing.

    No more guilt...!

    Good for you. Cheers!

    Be well, OC.

  9. I meant wine, they sell wine. Maybe they sell wind there too I don't know but I would be more apt to purchase a pinot than microburst.
