I was talking to a friend today, about things long gone from our lives. Specifically body products. It's strange what you end up talking about when you are doped up on Nyquil isn't it? I wonder what ever happened to “Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific” shampoo? Or Agree Green Apple Shampoo? Or that strawberry stuff? It seems that not only does music define my life, so do smells.
Channel No. 5 will always and forever remind me of my mom. Opium will always remind me of me, but now it’s starting to smell like old-lady perfume. I guess all things come and go, as do people.
I don’t know if you’ve ever found yourself scouring Big Lots looking for discontinued hair products like I have, but I have been on many such missions in my life. I wish they would tell you when they are going to just quit making something though, then I could stock up properly. Instead of going in to buy a much loved product, only to find a “new and improved” version that is not what I want at all.
There was this one shave cream I loved for my legs...the only one I’ve ever loved, it smelled like rasberries and was very slick, and it worked so well. I went into get it, and they had changed it all to shave cream in cans, and it sucked.
My newest annoyance is Clariol Herbal Essences Shampoo. I have been on this for years. Worked great on my hair, then one day, I go to buy it, and bam....different bottle, different smell..same name, but the really weird thing is, hanging out on the bottom shelf at walmart is a very small section of the old stuff. Now this wouldn’t be so odd, if this new version was brand new, but it’s well over a year now and they still have the same small section of the old version.
I want to know if they quit making it and the Walmart where I live is the lucky recipient of thousands of cases they alone needed to sell, or did they really not quit making it? What freaking gives?
The other thing I’ve just noticed really recently is that my two favorite chewing gums are MIA. I cannot for the life of me find Carefree Peppermint ( the kind in the yellow pack), or Trident Cinnamon ( I can only find this in the multi-packs at walmart with all the flavors).
I want to be able to buy the same big pack I’ve been buying since I was a kid. I don’t know why this irritates me so, but it does. I don’t mind change, I really don’t, but when something I really like goes off the market, it just plain bugs me. This is such a minor annoyance, I know, but it creeps up on me. It usually takes me a while to figure out that they are not just “out” of something, that they really are not making it anymore.
Next thing you know, Ben and Jerry’s will quit making Cherry Garcia. Now that would true catastrophe for me.

do you remember that stuff you could spray in your hair to extend the time between shampoos? *shudder* I have issues with that stuff...
