Weekend Recollections

I spent tonight downloading a bunch of really old songs for my iPod. Songs that made my little 7th grade heart go all a twitter in Jr. High. What is up with that?

Feeling the need to reconnect I guess.

I needed to make phone calls this weekend and didn't do it. I'll catch up this week with friends.

I decided to make this weekend about me, and about the kids.

I spent all day on Saturday with Small Son. Took him to the Obabma Headquarters with me on Saturday morning, and while I made phone calls, he colored a giant head shot of Barack. Kristen, one of the actual campaign organizers, spent a lot of time with Small Son, and he had a blast. He also got to eat 2 cinnamon sugar bagels and two muffins and a big glass of juice. We wandered around down town for a bit, then headed off to the birthday party of Small Son's new best friend "Russell".

We had to drive quite a ways up in the mountains.

Really it was one of the nicest kids party's I've been to in a long time. Russell's parents were great. I really liked them. They rented a gigantic bounce house for the kids, who all were in bounce heaven.

There were no "goody" bags to speak of, and lots of adults. I ran into an old co-worker from my previous job, and talked in great detail with Russell's grandpa from Arizona. It was just a nice hang out in the sun day. The kids were all running around, and no one was bothered by them. There was so much outdoor stuff to do, it was just nice.

I may rent one of those bounce houses for the kids birthdays next year, what better way to burn off the sugar high?

There was a real pin the tail on the donkey game, and all the kids got a goodie bag for a treat. Now I know I said there were no goodie bags, but I guess I mean there were no goodie bags full of crap. The bags each had one small candy bar, a pencil, and a few other things that were actually useful.

They had made a big pot of chili, and served it with Frito's and cheese (one of my personal favorite junk meals) and had plenty of water, soda and capri suns for the kids. I don't know, I was actually sort of happy to see a cooler full of caffeine free soda's for the kids for some reason, it just seemed so unpretentious. There was plenty of beer for the adults, both the nasty Bud versions and some yummy local dark micro brews.

It was just the sort of day I needed after the hellish week I had last week. I haven't been to a party by myself in a long time where I had such a good time. Of course there is something to be said about being at a party on a nice afternoon with the sweeping views of Montana all around.

The last best thing about that party, was that there were two beautiful black labs I got to play with. I needed some dog love, and keep thinking about going out and finding myself a pup. Maybe next spring.

Today I got my house in order, bathrooms cleaned, roasted a chicken and made garlic roasted red potato's. Harvested the rest of the tomatoes and Walla Walla's and got a good start on the laundry. Of course I got my weekly afternoon nap with the kidlets.

There is something so basic about getting some control over your house. Of course, it's already heading back down the road to disaster, courtesy of two small kids.

So back to work tomorrow. I am hoping for a better week next week.

Hope everyones weekend was pleasant and relaxing.

Peace,

OC
