I admit it, I have crappy teeth. Crappy teeth I've spent a large fortune on taking care of. I have more crowns than I can count. I spent 3 1/2 years in braces as a kid.
I hate my teeth.
I love my teeth.
Right now, I'm hating them.
Two nights ago, I felt the dreaded "twinge" in my very back left molar, which is encased in a nice looking crown. For those of you, who like me have had extensive dental work and problems, I'm sure you know about the "twinge." For those of you that don't, count yourself among the lucky.
I'm digressing. Back to the twinge. There is only one thing going on, when I feel this pain. There is an abscess starting. I kids you not, I'd rather do just about anything, including having a baby, to avoid this sort of tooth pain. Hands down, it's the worst pain I've ever felt. Sort of akin to someone taking a nice fat iron steak, and pounding it into your jaw, with in a staccato sort of like John McCain's famous "bomb bomb bomb my tooth". It is a pain so intense, you are nearly willing to cut off your own head to get rid of it. Pain killers (aka narcotics) if you are lucky will "take the edge off of it."
How did people deal with tooth pain back in the day? It is such a horrible, miserable pain, I really feel for anyone that has to go through it. I'm grateful at least that I am able to get rid of this, but I can see a painful few weeks ahead of me.
So there I sat, two nights ago, feeling the dreaded twinge. I looked at hubby, and said, uh oh, I have an abscess. He knew exactly what this meant, as he has been through two of them with me, one for each kid.
So I went off to the dentist today, after a sleepless night full of Vicodin and Tylenol. Sure enough, there is an abscess. Also, the news that I will need (besides the necessary root canal for the abscess) one additional root canal and two more crowns. Holy shit. I hate this. I had eight crowns done the winter I was pregnant with Little Miss, and two weeks before I had her, I had the worst abscess I've ever had.
So, now I'm on ABX to get rid of the infection, and I will have to drive myself 100 miles in 2 weeks to the specialist to have this root canal done because it is under a crown. Then in a few more weeks, one more root canal, and a crown.
Ah well, at least I have pretty teeth, even if they aren't really mine. Oh wait, they are to mine, I paid for them!
Tonight though, has been a weird night. I came home from work, and took to pain pills, and nearly passed out on my bed. I was feeling so drugged up, and at the same time, it barely took the edge off the pain. I ended up taking one more pill, and that did take the edge off, but it also put me out. Now that the pills are finally wearing off, I'm faced with the choice of less pain and drug induced twilight, or extreme pain, and a clear mind. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I should be out of this mess tomorrow by the time the ABX start getting rid of the infection.
So there you go, another bad week with my boss, and now this. At least the day I have to have the dental work done falls on a state holiday and I won't have to take the day off work.
Work is still going crappy. I'll hang for a bit longer, but if my boss doesn't knock it off, I will be looking for a new job. It is not Old Crone Style to stay around and get beat up.
Peace,
OC
Ouch! I know that twinge and I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the tooth pain. And REALLY sorry about you having to drive 100 miles back home AFTER a RC. YUK - any chance you can get someone to go with you and drive?
ReplyDeleteSending my best pain-free thoughts to you!
Ouch...four crowns and one root canal I understand.
ReplyDeleteThe pain I experienced because of an infection and the root canal was the absolute worst.
Well no ...then I got a tattoo, that is now my "new worst pain ever".
hope you feel better soon-
janet
OUCH. I know where you are coming from since I have a few crowns and one root canal. One thing I do is swish hydrogen peroxide around in my mouth twice a day. I have never had an infection and I am sure there is a connection. Just an easy cheap idea.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry about your tooth. I have one crown and that was horrid.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, that's how I feel about my back.
I hope your weekend is good.
That sounds terribly uncomfortable. I hope the ABX help to ease your pain a bit. And I so wish you didn't have to trek 100 miles to see a specialist. BTW, someone recently mentioned to me that rubbing clove oil on your gum was a great way to relieve tooth pain.
